Jessica Weatherall Osteopath

Edinburgh, Lothian
Jessica studied Osteopathy for 5 years at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. She has worked in New Zealand and Australia and is now a fully UK registered and insured Osteopath.

Jessica has had extensive training in the Biodynamic approach to Cranial Osteopathy and is currently undergoing a 4 year training programme in Switzerland for the Treatment of Children. This involves ongoing courses throughout the year with some of the World's most experienced Osteopaths and working along side them at the Swiss Osteopath Centre for Kids.

Jessica is passionate about Osteopathy and her treatment using Biodynamics is aimed at enhancing the body's relationship with health, rather than focusing on the lesion. It views the body as a whole and acknowledges a higher wisdom at work, allowing the body to self-heal and dissolve the cause of the problem. It varies from the traditional biomechanical model of Osteopathy in the following ways:

Biomechanical Model
- the body is seen is separate parts
- diagnosis and treatment is of individual lesions, areas of restricted motion causing illness or disease
- treatment is carried out by applying force, either large or subtle, to individual areas to resolve the lesion
- the osteopath decides what needs to be resolved

Biodynamic model
- the body is seen as a WHOLE
- diagnosis is observing the natural forces of primary respiration at work and identifying either the freedom or restriction of these forces as they move through the body.
- Treatment is in the direction of ease, involves very little external force and is in harmony with the body. Treatment is facilitated by synchronising with primary respiration to provide a space and opening for healing to occur. The focus is on finding HEALTH, not disease.
- the Osteopath is listening to the body to allow treatment to occur where the body needs it, not where the Osteopath thinks it needs it.

Biodynamics is a gentle but profound treatment approach which requires an intimate knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
