Tait Stanley School of Dancing

Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

Our dance school is situated in the North of the City of Nottingham. We own the premises which has its own car park, avoiding parking fees or street parking. It has a large maple floor which pupils say is the best in the area for both quality and size.

We have been running a successful school in the Nottingham area for over 40 years teaching all grades and age groups from three year olds to seniors and beginners to competitors covering Ballroom, Latin American, Old Time and Rock and Roll. Many newlyweds have had their "first dance" choreographed in the school.

On a personal basis we have achieved sucess in Old Time and Ballroom competitions and also have won many inventive dance competitions, arranging new dances in Ballroom, Latin American and Old Time, these successes having been in the Imperial Society, the National Association of Teachers of Dancing, the Allied Dance Association and at the Southport, Slough and Butlins Dance Festivals.

Travelling abroad to officiate as British adjudicators has also been a part of our professional life as well as teaching abroad. Events include the Worlds, the Asian Pacific and the South Pacific in various parts of Australia, returning via Singapore to visit dance schools there. An invitation was also taken up to judge in Nottingham's Twin City of Minsk at the Spring Rhythms International Dance Festival, with a return trip including a cruise on the River Amur in Siberia to judge at various venues and provide lectures to both Amateur and Professional couples. Nearer to home visits have been made to judge at Championships in Dublin.

Our aim is to teach pupils to dance at whatever level they choose in a relaxed, friendly environment. Everyone can dance given the opportunity and encouragement. Dance improves fitness and helps with self esteem. It brings people of all ages into a community setting where they can make friends and have social enjoyment. Dance is recommended by the British Heart Foundation as an ideal way of keeping fit. There are no dress requirements in our school. All we hope for is that pupils enjoy their time with us.
