Barnlake Boarding Kennels and Cattery

Paddy and Merril Maris moved into Barnlake in 1981. During the intervening years they have run the Boarding Kennels, the Cattery, an Animal Shelter (unfortunately now closed) and a full time Dog Training School.

At Barnlake we feel that what you need when you choose your Boarding Kennels is to know that your pets will be safe and that their health will be supervised by staff knowledgeable in animal husbandry and nursing, and that the people who look after them have experience, a love of animals, and a responsible attitude. Therefore much thought and planning has gone into providing trouble-free accommodation for your cats and dogs, and their mental welfare, contentment and stability has been carefully studied as well as their health and husbandry.

The dogs are exercised twice a day in our own field. This prevents the dogs feeling lonely as they have company, fun and a chance to relieve themselves out of doors - and the staff have the opportunity to observe them and see if there are any problems.

We feed the dogs a premium grade duck and rice diet which has proved both palatable and gentle on the digestive system - no upset tummies! Other food is kept in case of need. The cats can be fed either tinned or dried food, by your choice. Special diets can be brought by arrangement.

The cats are housed in a separate building where they're sheltered from the comings and goings of the dog kennels. In the kennels there is an area especially set aside for small dogs, so that the sight and sound of the larger breeds won't alarm them! All the kennel pens are indoors, so that the dogs and cats are not exposed to the weather and cold winds, although they can see out.

Barnlake was a traditional Pembrokeshire farm with the outbuildings - which have been converted for kennels and dog training - surrounding a courtyard, so the dogs can watch activities around the yard to keep them from boredom. The property has an atmosphere of the countryside tradition all of its own, and visitors often comment on the warm family environment.

The kennels can be inspected any time during opening hours, no need to make an appointment. If you would like our brochure or to talk to us, please telephone or call in.
