Gravesend in Kent is situated on the south bank of the Thames Estuary opposite Tilbury. The town has a strong maritime history, and today it’s a popular town with people commuting to London as it’s only 25 miles from Charing Cross and connected via High Speed 1 trains. The town is home to 66,000 people.
Gravesend Market is one of the oldest in the country with a charter dating back to 1268. A Tudor fort was built here in 1543 by Henry VIII.
Mainly a commuter town, Gravesend has some local high street shops, the market hall which is open 6 days a week, a farmers market, and four of the main supermarkets.
Shorne Woods Country Park is popular with locals - it has several walking trails, two play areas, lakes, a restaurant and a sensory garden.
The Cyclopark is another popular facility, with a road track, mountain bike trails a skate park and a BMX track.
