If you are doing any sort of dance as a hobby or a job, or even if you are attending classes to learn how to dance, you need to make sure that you have the right dance wear.
This is not only to ensure that you look the part and fit in, but also to make sure that you are comfortable whilst you dance, are able to move freely whilst dancing, and you are wearing the right materials for dance.
Below are some frequently asked questions about finding the right dance wear.
Why do I need to have special dance wear?
As a dancer, whether you are doing it professionally, for fun, or just learning, you need to make sure that you are wearing the right sort of clothing. This could be for a number of reasons, including:
- Looking the part: If you are performing then you need to ensure that you look the part based on the type of dance that you are performing.
- Comfort: You need to have dance clothes that are comfortable to perform in, and allow you to move with ease and grace.
- Suitability of materials: It is important to have clothing that is made from the right materials, otherwise you could end up experiencing friction or other problems that cause discomfort.
- Specialist needs: If you are performing dance such as tap dancing or ballet you will need specialist dance wear, such as ballet or tap shoes, in order to perform that particular dance.
Is specialist dance wear expensive?
The cost of dance wear is the same as any other type of clothing, in that the cost can vary based on where you buy from, the size that you need, the materials that you choose, and whether it is a designer label or unbranded.
With the huge choice available these days you should be able to find something that is both suitable and affordable.
Where is the best place to find dance wear?
The easiest and most effective way to find the right dance wear is to go online. Whilst this does have the disadvantage of not being able to try the items on first, you should bear in mind that you can return them and exchange them for another size if there is a problem.
The advantages include getting far greater choice, enjoying improved value for money, and finding the perfect dance wear for your needs.
I'm due to start dance classes and am not sure what sort of dance wear I should choose - what should I do?
If you are about to start classes in any sort of dance it is a good idea to check with the school or the teacher with regards to the type of dance wear you will need initially. If you are only just starting out it is doubtful that you will need to be kitted out to the nines in the perfect dance wear! However, there may be some items of dance wear that the teacher recommends before you start your classes.
