Founded in 1905, and built by 6 times Open Champion Harry Vardon,, Llandrindod Wells Golf Club is situated on a gently undulating plateau overlooking the Spa town. The club was inaugurated in 1907 with a match between Vardon,James Braid and the legendary JH Taylor, between them winners of 16 Open Championships.

Vardon designed a golf course that demonstrates a unique individuality that is seldom seen on parkland golf courses. Vardons innovative use of the natural enviroment created a golf course that plays very much like a traditional 'links' course. At almost 6,000 yards with a par of 69 this is a golf course that no golfer will want to miss.

The club celebrated its centenary in 2005 by winning the Golf Union of Wales Welsh Golf Club of The Year, an accolade that has only been achieved by three other clubs in the Principality. As part of its Centenary celebrations the club also completed a new 8 bay driving range and a substantial extension to the clubhouse to accommodate new high quality locker and changing facilities for both ladies and gents.

The course has a number of signature holes, or holes that you will remember playing long after you have finished your round. The earliest of these is, in fact, the first hole. Most people remember it because there is a steady climb to the green, which is situated about 100 feet above and some 300 yards from the tee, but in fact this hole sets the tenor for the whole course, as you stand on the tee you have a decision to make. With a steep grassy bank some 160 to 175 yards from the tee, do you take a lofted wood of long iron and lay-up short of the bank leaving a mid iron shot into the green or, take a driver, clear the bank and leave a wedge shot into the green, but lo and behold anyone who doesn't clear the bank, because it will be almost impossible to make your par.

Perhaps the best known 'signature' hole on the course was one of the few that Vardon named when he designed the course and even 100 years ago the 18th hole was impressive enough to be named 'Death or Glory'. Nowadays, with modern equipment and balls, many golfers feel confident enough to reach for the driver and tackle the 270 yard carry across a wide ravine, the nearer slope of which is covered with bracken and gorse, rather than take a long iron, drop a shot onto the fairway and then take a wedge to reach the green, but beware, many a good card has been spoiled by a rash decision on the 18th tee.

We hope you enjoy your golf at Llandrindod Wells and look forward to seeing you again in the future.
