Flamingos Dance

Barnet, Greater London
Flamingos Dance is a Barnet (North London) based dance school specialising in flamenco dance and ballet.

BALLET
We offer ballet classes for children at three levels:

Baby Ballet is a fun introduction to dance for children from three years of age. There are lots of props to engage the children; we play ballet games, and use mime and improvisation, as well as teaching the very basics of ballet practice.

Primary Ballet is for those ready to move on to a more structured ballet class - usually those who have just started school. We still have lots of fun and games but we now concentrate on teaching the basic positions of arms and feet, and follow the traditional exercises to train young bodies in the classical technique.

Junior Ballet is the next level for those wanting to build upon the basic classical training. The class has a more structured framework of barre and centre work, progressing on to small enhancements and group choreography. Students are encouraged to attend two classes per week for no additional charge.

At Flamingos Dance we do not put our students under the pressure of entering formal examinations as our primary focus is to make dance available and enjoyable. All students receive achievement certificates each term and Junior level students are graded according to aptitude, improvement, attendance and application. We do offer various opportunities for small performances for which participation is encouraged but not compulsory.

Free trial class by arrangement.

FLAMENCO

Flamenco Dance classes for children aged five and over are lively and fun. Children learn zapateado (footwork), palmas (clapping to rhythm), and jaleo (shouting encouragement) to a variety of different flamenco styles and rhythms. Group choreography is taught in addition to basic footwork and arm movements. Improvisation is encouraged and there is opportunity for performance for all who wish to take part.

Adult Flamenco classes are for beginners and those with some experience. This is a highly complex and fascinating dance form incorporating an absorbing variety of styles and rhythms. We work on all aspects of the dance form including zapateado (footwork), palmas (hand clapping), arms, turns as well as choreography, improvisation and understanding the rhythm and structure of the different songs. Over time the classes will cover all of the the main flamenco rhythms including Soleares, Alegrias, Seguirillas, Tientos, Fandangos, Tangos, Guajira, Garrotin, Tarrantos, Bulerias etc.

Our Flamenco Dance classes are accompanied by live music.

Free trial class by arrangement.

In addition we offer children's dance parties and adults dance fit exercise classes.
